明崇祯年间，福山寺更加兴旺，寺宇面积广大，香火不断。近年来所挖掘的寺院地基遗址可见一斑。清乾隆年间，社会动荡不安，福山寺和全国其他寺庙一样，日渐式微，僧徒减少，寺域缩小，寺藏文物与珍贵资料流失殆尽。
